Linda Ann Triezenberg Postema, 59, died Tuesday at home following a two and a half year battle with lung cancer. A native of Evergreen Park, IL, Linda was a 1966 graduate of Chicago Christian High School in Palos Heights, IL. She received the Bachelor's degree in elementary education from Calvin College in 1970. While in college, Linda taught in the Head Start program in Chicago's inner city. Following graduation she taught fifth grade in Interlochen, NY until 1973. As a young mother, Linda and her family lived in Oxford, England and later, Ithaca, NY. In 1975 the Postemas settled in Baltimore, and then moved to Durham in 1980. Linda started working with GTE Data Services later Verizon and remained with the company until retirement in 2003. In the last several years, she had devoted herself to caring for her aging parents. A member of First Presbyterian Church, Linda served as en elder, a member of the bell choir and was chair of the personnel committee. Outside of her family, Linda's greatest interests were travel, bicycling and knitting. Her neerous adventures shared with her husband, included cycling the tranquil countryside of Durham and Orange counees, along with many trips to Europe. Passionee for justice, Linda was a devoted supporter of Housing for New Hope and anti-poverty initiatives at home and abroad. More recently, Linda focused her efforts on cancer research, allowing her own illness to serve as a contribution toward advancements in cancer treatment. Despite the tortuous journey of the last few years, Linda Postema maintained her deep faith, and a remarkable sense of dignity and peace. Surviving are her husband of 39 years, Dr. Gerald J. Postema; her daughter Alicia P. Budd and husband, Gary, of Baltimore; her parents, Theresa and George Triezenberg of Orland Park, IL; and a brother, Donald Triezenberg of Holland, MI. A service in witness to the Resurrection will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday in First Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. Phyllis Kort and the Rev. Marilyneedgpeth officiating. Cremation will follow the funeral. Friends may visit the family 7-9 PM Friday in the fellowship hall of the church, 305 E. Main St. Durham.
