Linda attended Rock Hill Elementary School and graduated from Rogersville High School. Demonstrating an early passion for learning, at just 16 years old, she began her college journey at East Tennessee State University, where she graduated with honors. It was during that time that she met the love of her life, Tom Adkinson. Tom said, “It was love at first sight.” They were married in 1965, embarking on a beautiful journey together that would last 59 wonderful years.
Linda was a devoted mother to her two daughters, who were the center of her world. She poured her heart into raising them and cherished every moment spent with her family, including her grandchildren and great grandchildren, who brought her infinite joy.
With a career that spanned over two decades, Linda served as the business manager for the pharmacy at Durham Regional Hospital, where she built many lasting friendships. Her warmth and dedication left a mark on everyone she encountered.
In addition to her professional accomplishments, Linda was actively involved in her church. She taught a first grade Sunday school class at Duke Memorial and dedicated over 20 years to scheduling teachers for the Open Door class there.
Her love for reading was evident in her participation in a book club, and her culinary talents shone as brightly as she did. She delighted in entertaining family and friends, and had a knack for pairing dishes that most would probably never think of. In fact, Linda approached everything in her life with mindfulness and purpose. Whether decorating her home, picking out a gift or a sweet card, or preparing a beautiful meal, she did it all with thoughtfulness and intention. It was truly her gift. Even when she didn’t feel her best, she always made it a point to show up and do for others.
She also had a deep love for Tennessee and enjoyed taking rides through its beautiful landscapes and visiting with family there.
Her humble spirit and loving nature illuminated the lives of all of those around her. She was truly beautiful inside and out.
As we mourn her passing, we find comfort in knowing that Linda is resting peacefully with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Her faith was a guiding light in her life, and she embraced the promise of eternal peace with grace and love.
Linda leaves behind a legacy of love, kindness, and many cherished memories. She will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing her.
In honor of her life, a celebration of Linda’s love and spirit will be held on Saturday, January 4th at 2:00 PM at Duke Memorial United Methodist Church with a reception to follow in the Whitford Hall. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Durham Rescue Mission and Duke Memorial Church.
Rest in peace, dear Linda. Your light will forever shine in our hearts.
