Lillian Huntley Braswell of Durham died on Sunday, October 24, 2021. She was born September 5, 1927, in Lenoir, NC, to Meta Belle McGhee Huntley and Lawrence Bismarck Huntley, the last of eight siblings.
Mrs. Braswell is survived by her children, Tamela B. Davis of Durham, Deborah B. Isenhour of Greenville, S.C.; Jack V. Braswell, Jr., and his wife Susan Dabbs of Seneca, S.C.; Rebecca A. Braswell of Durham; and Susan B. Kilzer and her husband, Henry Oehmann of Chapel Hill, NC.
She is also survived by grandchildren, Hunt Davis (Jessica) of Raleigh, NC; Morgan Strahle (Zach) of Virginia; Jackson Braswell (Jen) of Randleman, NC; and Natalie Broyhill (Penn) of Winston-Salem, NC; Louis Elliott of Brevard, NC; Adam Collins and Graham Kilzer, both of California. Also surviving are six great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Jack Vernon Braswell, Sr.; five sisters, two brothers and her grandson, Merrill Davis.
Mrs. Braswell graduated in 1946 from Lenoir High School and married Jack Vernon Braswell of Morganton, NC, on January 1, 1947. The joy of her life was raising her five children. She served a term as PTA president of East Harper Elementary School, Lenoir, NC, and was active in the Children’s Department of First Methodist Church in Lenoir for many years. Mrs. Braswell retired after 20 years working in the public office of Southern Bell Telephone Co., (now Frontier Communications), as a business representative in Lenoir. She moved to Durham, NC, in 2006.
Mrs. Braswell’s ashes will be interred at Blue Ridge Memorial Park in Lenoir, NC, at a family graveside service. Flowers are acceptable. Memorial gifts to First United Methodist Church, General Fund, 309 Church Street NW, Lenoir, NC, 28645, are appreciated.
