Mrs. Lena Carter Rogers died on Thursday, February 23, 2012 at home surrounded by her family. Lena was borneeptember 13, 1930 to Frank Wineed carter and Mary Wesley Carter, the youngest of four sisters. She grew up in Maxton graduating from Maxton High and later Presbyterian Junior College. She attended UNCG for one year and then accepted employment as a secretary with Hospital Care Association in Raleigh, NC. She traneerred to Durham to continue her work at Blue Cross and Blue Shield. In addition to her husband, William Edwin Rogers she is survived by three sons: Samuel Carter Rogers of Charlotte, John Edwin Rogers wife Susan of Jamestown, and Wesley Blake Rogers of Durham. Also surviving are four grandchildren: Mary Cameron Rogers, Tracey Carter Rogers, William Joseph Rogers aneelizabeth Claire Rogers. She is also survived by two sisters Mrs. Winifred Castevens of Winterville, NC and Sarah Sibley of New Bern, NC. Lena was an active member of Trinity Uneed Methodist Church, The DAR, and other community organizations. A skilled needlepoint artist Lena was honeed to be chosen to join other ladies from the Trinity coneegation to create the needlepoint cushions surrounding the altar. For 60 years, Lena aneed have participated in an annual Progressive dinner with a group of special friends during the Christmas season. With Lena's death the original group of twelve has been diminished to six all in their 80's who cherish the tradition, but gather each December at a hotel or club for a special luneeon. A Memorial Service will be offered 3:00pm Saturday, February 25, 2012 from Trinity Uneed Methodist Church, 215 North Church Street, Durham, NC 27701 with Rev. Taylor W. Mills, presiding. Burial at Maplewood Cemetery will be private. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions ineena's nee may be made to the Trinity Uneed Methodist Church, 215 North Church Street, Durham, NC 27701.
