Laura Fresina Sugar

SANFORD – Laura Fresina Sugar, age 68, died at the Hillcrest Convalescent Center in Durham on Saturday, December 5, 2020. She was born on July 3, 1952 to the late Gertrude Victoria Danesi and Michael John Fresina, Sr. in Syracuse, New York.

Moving from Syracuse in 1979 to Meadville, PA, then to Norwich, NY in 1982, Laura finally settled in Sanford in 1983, where she raised her three children and retired from her job as a caseworker for Lee County DSS in 2018.

Laura is survived by her children Christine Marie Sugar of Raleigh, NC, Jennifer Sugar Rockwell (Ryan) of Cary, NC, and James Carmen Sugar (Kim) of Cary, NC; as well as her grandchildren – Sean Patrick Morris (15), Elias James Sugar (10), Corinne Rose Rockwell (6), Julian Turner Sugar (6), Jasper Bruce Sugar (3), and Hugo Fresina Sugar (born 12/10); and her brothers, Anthony Fresina and Michael Fresina, Jr., both of Summerfield, FL. She was preceded in death by her parents, Gertrude and Michael.

The family plans to have a memorial service and celebration of Laura’s life in Spring 2021.
