Kristina Ann Miller

Kristi Miller, 35, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, April 11, 2024.

Kristi was born on December 30, 1988 in Columbus, Georgia to Claire (Fisher) Miller and the late Jeffrey Robert Miller. She was the older of two children. Following her graduation from Jordan High School in Durham, North Carolina May 2007, Kristi attended Miami University in Oxford, OH where she majored in Psychology. She studied abroad at Miami University’s Luxemburg campus Spring semester 2010, and found great joy in her international experience, making lifelong friends, and becoming thoroughly entranced with travel. Graduating in May 2011, Kristi returned to her hometown of Durham, NC. From 2013 -2015, she attended Radford University, Radford, VA, graduating with a Master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling in 2015.

Kristi’s career was primarily spent as a clinical mental health counselor in Galax, VA. She passed her licensing exam in November 2020 becoming a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in Virginia. Subsequently, during the pandemic, Kristi returned to North Carolina, becoming a licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor (LCMHC) in North Carolina in 2022. She recently joined a counseling practice in Raleigh, NC.

Since childhood, Kristi was an avid Duke fan, but her deepest loyalty was to her—and her father’s--alma mater, Miami University. With her family, Kristi belonged to the Duke Faculty Club where she swam for the Aqua Devils, and worked as both a lifeguard and swim teacher as a young adult. Besides swimming, Kristi loved to dance and routinely exercised at local gyms where she lived. Kristi had a lovely voice, and loved singing and listening to music. She was known for her wit and sense of humor. Not only did she make other laugh, she laughed often herself, finding humor in the many life difficulties she faced. She was courageous, at times fierce, warm, caring, and bright, and brought joy to all who knew her.

A member of the extended church community of Berachah Church of Houston, Texas, Kristi followed her beloved father’s example listening to Rev. Robert Thieme, Jr.’s Bible doctrine CD’s. She was an exceptionally loving daughter, sister, niece, cousin, aunt, and friend. She will be deeply missed by her family.

Kristi was predeceased in death by her father; aunts, Kristina Jane (Kristi) and Karen Ann Miller; and uncles, Robert and John Fisher, III. She is survived by her mother; brother, Jeffrey; sister-in-law, Amanda Rae Miller; and beloved nephews, Jeffrey Robert and Nathan Caleb Miller of Goldsboro, NC; uncles, Mark Miller, of Sunbury, OH, and David Fisher of Cairo, NY; aunt, Dr. Stephanie Fisher of Cairo, NY; step-grandmother, Dora Miller of Mentone, IN; and cousins, Ryan and Russell Miller both of Ohio.

A memorial service will be held at Duke University Chapel on May 6, 2024 from 1 to 2 pm with a reception to follow. Reception details will be provided at her memorial service.
