Ketki Shah

Ketki B. Shah, caring wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend, passed away at home in Durham, NC on August 22, 2022 at the age of 80.

Ketki was born on December 24,1941 in Mumbai, India. She immigrated to the US in 1966 with her husband, Dr. Babubhai V. Shah and settled in Durham, NC which has been her home for 55 years.

Ketki received a Bachelor of Science from Maharaja Sayajirao University in 1962. After coming to America, she decided to further education and received her Master of Science from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro in 1969 and her Master of Public Health from the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill in 1971. After completing her education, she taught at North Carolina Central University and after raising children she worked at RTI as a clinical project manager.

Ketki enjoyed reading, knitting/crocheting, and playing Bridge. She was described as the last generation that believed that love is a verb, not a fleeting feeling, for whom money was not the measure of a life well lived. She gave practical advice, and her generosity was beyond measure.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Babubhai V. Shah. She is survived by her son and daughter in-law, Parag and Shivani Shah of Cary, NC, her granddaughter, Sophie Shah, her daughter and son-in-law, Mona and Brent Shurland of Wake Forest, NC, her sisters Rekha Desai and Rupa Desai of Vadodara, India, and Trusha Desai of Vancouver, Canada.

A memorial service will be held at Hall-Wynne Funeral Chapel on Monday, August 29, 2022 at 11 am. In lieu of flowers, donations in Ketki’s memory can be made to the following charitable organizations:
