Kenneth Johnson Pickard

DURHAM - Kenneth Johnson Pickard, age 92, passed away peacefully oneecember 14, 2016 surrounded by his loving and devoted family. Kenneth was borneecember 16, 1923 in Durham County, to the late James Ernest Pickard and Mae Johnson Pickard. Kenneth proudly served his country during WWII in the US Army Air Corps training as a pilot cadet. While stationed in South Georgia with the Military Police, he met the love of his life Maxie Alexander. After the war, Kenneth began working in the family business, Pickard Roofing Company. He was instrumental in the operation of the company from Nov. 1 1945 ??? Dec. 15, 1988. Kenneth was a longtime member of Temple Baptist Church. He loved to fish, and had a great sense of humor who always had a joke to tell. Kenneth was preceded ineeath by his wife of 63 years, Maxie Alexander Pickard, his brothers, Lewis Pickard, John Pickard, James ???Snooky??? Pickard, Joe Pickard, and his sister, Anee Sue Pickard. Kenneth is survived by his daughters, Donna Pickard Bryant (Howard Sassman) and Susan Pickard Shepherd; his brother, Bill Pickard (Myrt); his grandchildren, Michelle Shepherd Dickerson (Kevin) and Jason Shepherd (Christie) and his great grandchildren, Taylor, Cameron, Hayley, Sarah, Austin and several nieces and nephews. Graveside services will be held 3:00 PM Friday, December 16, 2016 at Maplewood Cemetery with Rev. Mark Mofield officiating. Friends may visit from 1:30 ??? 2:30PM Friday, December 16, 2016 at Hall-Wynne Funeral Service.
