Katherine Dusenberry Daniel

Katherine Dusenberry Daniel, age 93, formerly of 4012 Bristol Rd., Durham, NC died June 18, 2006 at Hillcrest Convalescent Center after several years of declining health. Katherine was born July 29, 1912 in Due West, SC to George Reid Dusenberry, Sr. & Lina Radcliffe Dusenberry. She was the oldest of seven children. She graduated valedictorian of her class from Due West High School in 1930. Katherine received her AB degree in Mathematics aneenglish from Erskine College in Due West, SC in 1934 graduating Suma Cum Laude. For nee years she taught English ineeveral high schools to include Honea Path, SC, Peneeton, SC, Asheville, NC & Easley, SC. She received her BS degree in library science from UNC-Chapel Hill in 1943 and beganeer career as a professional college librarianeerving on the library staff of Clemson College, Winthrop College, Virginia Polytechnic Institute and North Carolina State Uneersity. While at VPI, Katherine met her husband, David O. Daniel, who was a chemist at Hercules Powder Company in Blacksburg, VA. They married in 1946 and shortly thereafter began their family. From 1952 until 1960, Katherine worked as a librarian at Ft. Belvoir, VA for the Department of the Army in the Corps of Engineer School Library as a reference librarian. In 1961, she and her family moved to Durham, NC. She began a 17 year tenee working as a librarian at the Uneersity of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in the Wilson Library. While working there, she earned her MS degree in Library Science in 1969. At the age of 67, Katherine retired and began to enjoy gardening, walking daily ineer neighborhood, reading, traveling around the country and abroad, and spending time with her grandchildren. She was an active member of Epworth Uneed Methodist Church where was involved with the Dan Sharpe Sunday School Class, the Sarah Circle and the Book Club.
