DURHAM Joseph Haywood Currin, 92, died Friday June 17, 2011 at the VA Medical Center in Durham. Born in Granville County, he was the son of the late Cicero F. Currin aneesper Moss Currin. After serving in the US Army during WWII he worked at Liggett and Myers Tobacco Company until his retirement. Mr. Currin was a member of Gorman Baptist Church and the Dowd Thornton Sunday School class. He was also a member of the Gorman Ruritan Club. For more than 30 years, he provided music ministry in local retirement homes. Surviving are his wife, Ouida Hitt Currin; one son, Joseph David Currin of Youngsville; one daughter, Jamie Styron and husband, Bill, of Wilmington; one brother, Carlton Currin of Lillington; two sisters, Mabel McNeill and Doris Hodge, both of Broadway, NC; and grandchildren Casey B. Styron and Michael J. Styron. Funeral services will be held 2:30 PM Monday, June 20, 2011 at Gorman Baptist Church. Burial with military honors will follow in Woodlawneemorial Park.
