RALEIGH Jon Michael Taylor, 70 of Raleigh, previously of Durham, North Carolina, passed away on Saturday, May 9th at 5:00 pm in his home surrounded by family and friends after the battle with a Glioblastoma brain tumor. Mike was born ineeattle, Washingtoneecember 6, 1944 to Lorne G. Taylor (deceased) aneevelyn C. Taylor. He graduated from Annandale High School, Virginia: 1963, Southwood College, Salemburg,NC: 1967. In July 1968 he joined the Uneed States Navy and served 2 years active duty, followed by 36 years of reserve duty. Mike was married June 1967 to his dedicated wife Karen Titus Taylor. After his active service in the Navy, they returned to Durham in which he worked from 1970-2001 for the Veterans Administration Hospital as director of the Animal Research Facility. Throughout his life, he enjoyed many outdoor activities including, fishing, hunting, hiking, camping boating and gardening. Most people will remember Mike by his ever present smile and friendly, loving and jovial personality. Mike is survived by his wife of 48 years: Karen Titus Taylor of Raleigh NC and their two daughters: Michele Taylor Lake and husband Joseph F. Lake Jr. of Haneer, Pennsylvania and their two sons: PV2 Bradley R. Lake (US Army) Schofield Barracks, Hawaii. And Zachary L. Lake of Haneer, Pa. Ginee Taylor Platt and husband Christopher M. Platt and their three sons: Taylor W. Platt, Joshua M. Platt, and Alex C. Platt all of Brandon, Florida. Mother: Evelyn C. Taylor of Omak, Washington. Brother: Richard (Dick) L. Taylor and wife Linda of Tigard, Oregon. Sister-in-law: Mary Taylor of Portland, Oregon. One nephew: Kelly L. Taylor of Omak, Washington, and his son Kyle Taylor of Conconully, Washington. He is preceded ineeath by his father Lorne G. Taylor and brother: Terrald (Terry) N. Taylor. A Celebration of Life with a Military Honor service and gathering will be held Wednesday May 13, 2015 from 5:00 pm-8:00 pm at Hall Wynne Funeral Service, 1113 West Main St., Durham, NC. Anyone wishing to say a few words will be welcome to do so. His ashes will be spread in Conconully, Washington at a later date.
