Mr. Jessie Walker Rodgers, of Pittsboro, will be funeralized on Saturday at 11:00 am at Mitchell Chapel AME Zion Church. Mr. Jessie departed this life on Sunday, January 18th after serving his church and community for 92 years. Mr. Jessie was born in Chatham County oneecember 18, 1916, the son of Willie D. and Fanee Degraffenreidt Rodgers. He was employed by Griffin Funeral Service in Pittsboro for 65 years, still working three days a week, and was an NC licensed funeral director since September, 1958. Mr. Jessie was an active member of Mitchell Chapel AME Zion Church, and the Chatham County Ushers Association; he had served as a church usher since age 9 until his death. Mr. Jessie leaves loving memories to his son, William Manley Ora Lee of Los Angeles, CA; his daughter, Mary Sue of Chapel Hill; grandchildren, William Alexander of Carrollton, TX, Marc Anthony of Hampton, VA, Virginia, Brian, and Bernard, all of Chapel Hill; and brothers, Arthur and Willie, both of Pittsboro. Preceding Mr. Jessie ineeath were his parents, his wife Mary, and brothers, Gaither, Solomon, and Charlie. Following the service on Saturday, Mr. Jessie will be interred in the Mitchell Chapel Church cemetery. The wake will be held from 7:00 8:00 pm Friday evening at Mitchell Chapel AME Zion Church.
