Jean Anthony Baird Shambley was born in Haywood County, Tenn. oneecember 24, 1925 died Feb.5th 2020 in Durham, NC.?? Her parents were Walter Leslie Baird and Hattie Gertrude Stewart Baird.?? Her mother died when she was 4 years old and was raised by Unee Herman Alfonso and Sallie Jacocks in Bradenton, Fla.???? She graduated from Bradenton High School in 1943. Jeaneet her husband Clyde Odell Shambley while he was serving as an Air Traffic Controller in the Army Air Core in Sarasota, Fla.?? They were married in Bradenton, Fla, August 12, 1945. Clyde also (know as Speedy) was from Durham, NC. He was one of 11 children by Mettie Hicks and Wiley M. Shambley. ??Jean and Clyde raised two boys in Durham, Jay Anthony (Billie) and Mark Odell (Melinda). Clyde ran Shambley???s Upholstery and Jean worked for Liggett and Myers for 30 years.???? Jean started as a payroll clerk and finished as a data entry administrator.?? They retired to Newport Beach, NC where they hosted their grandchildren. They became a part of the Croasdaile Retirement Community in 2006.?? Jean and Clyde were married for 62 years until Clyde died in 2007. Jean thrived in the Croasdaile community where she was known for the jigsaw puzzel leadership and the creative writing group.???? The Family would like to thank Jatu Elious for her care of Jean for the last two years. ??Jean and Clyde had three grand children: William Baird and Anthony (Tony) Keefer Shambley (Jay) and James Odell Shambley (Mark).?? They also had 7 great-grandchildren.?? Grace Jean, Claire, Sophia, (William and Mary), Cole, Logan, Garrett (Tony and Jenna) and Josiah (James and Brooke) Shambley. The Shambley???s Memorial Service will be held March 1st at 2 pm at Croasdaile Interfaith Chapel. ??A Family and Friends reception will follow the ceremony. Their ashes will be buried in the Stanley Family graveyard in Orange County, NC.
