James Wesley Payne, Sr.

June 8, 1925 — July 15, 2010

James Wesley Payne, Sr., 85, died Thursday, July 15, 2010 at Rex Hospital. He was born June 8, 1925 in Talladega County, Alabama to the late Nobie and Beadie Gardner Payne. Mr. Payne was a retired rural mail carrier and a veteran of the U.S. Army Air Corp, WWII. He was a member of Corinth Baptist Church in Louisburg and a charter member of the Franklintoneescue Squad. He served as a Home Missionary Pastor in Mill Creek, WV. Mr. Payne is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Dorothy E. Payne of Wake Forest, NC; his son, James W. Payne, Jr. and wife, Linda of Franklinton; his daughter, Rhonda P. Bracknell and husband, Chris of Cripple Creek, VA; his granddaughter, Karissa B. Sluss and husband, Sammy of Garner, NC; his brother, William D. "Sonny" Payne and wife, Mary of Columbiana, AL; sisters, Elaine Tidwell and husband, Leon, of Oneonta, AL, Dorsey Cates of Thorsby, AL; Velera Payne of Oneonta, AL; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sister, Avis and brothers, W.F. Payne and Calbert Payne. Funeral Services will be held 2:30 PM Sunday, July 18, 2010 at Corinth Baptist Church with the Reverend Brent Farrar presiding. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Friends may visit immediately following the service in the church fellowship hall and other times at the home of Jimmy & Linda Payne, 1200 N. Green Street in Franklinton. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Corinth Baptist Church, 4582 U.S. 401 Hwy. North, Louisburg, NC 27549 or to a church of one's choice. Online memorials www.hallwynne.com.
