James Osborne Harris, 74, of Oxford, passed away Monday, May 15, 2017. He was a native of Granville County and the son of the late Clarence Osborne Harris and Pauline Dickerson Harris. Jim enlisted with the US Air Force in 1967 and retired as a Lt. Colonel in 1991 after having served 24 years and including two tours in the Vietnam War. He was a passionee Carolina fan where he also received his Master???s Degree in English. He later received his Doctorate in History through Gonzaga Uneersity. Jim loved history and learning the details of various wars, countries and cultures. Primarily, Jim enjoyed learning his own history through genealogical research. He was also an active member of Creedmoor Uneed Methodist Church and their Methodist Men???s group. Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 AM on Friday, May 19, 2017 at Creedmoor Uneed Methodist Church by Rev. Jared Hansoneentombment will follow ineeadowview Memorial Park. He is survived by his son, Tom Walker, Jr. of Raleigh, NC; grandson, Zach Walker, of Wilmington, NC; and special niece, Christy Kavulick (Jeff) of Clayton, NC. He is also survived by one aunt, Jerry L. Dickerson of Oxford, NC; sister-in-law, Deborah Currin (Joe) of Raleigh, NC, and many other loving nieces, nephews, cousins, family and friends. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Families Living Violence Free, 210 Broad St., Oxford, NC 27565. The family will receive guests from 9:30 - 10:30 AM on Friday, May 19, 2017 at Creedmoor Uneed Methodist Church prior to services.
