James "Mac" Mcvay

Oxford: James ???Mac??? McVay of Murrieta, California and Oxford North Carolina, passed away on August 29, 2017 at Duke Uneersity Hospital. Funeral services will be held at Amis Chapel Baptist Church at 1:00 PM Saturday, September 2, 2017 and will be officiated by Rev. Terry Howard. A visitation will be held at 12:00 PM prior to the funeral service at the church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Funeral arrangements will be provided by Gentry neell & Vaughan Funeral Home of Oxford, North Carolina. Mac was born to Marie Cox and Roy McVay in Montgomery, Alabama on March 20, 1937. He enlisted in the Marine Corp as PFC McVay during the Korean Conflict before graduating from high school. Mac was such a dedicated Marine that he was once a candidate for the Honor Guard for the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in Washington, D.C. On October 8, 1955 he married the love of his life Doris ???Polly??? McVay. They lived and traveled many places around the country, and the world, over their 54 years of marriage. Mac and Polly loved their children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. Mac was a member of the Southern Bakers Association. He was the Director of Major Accounts for South Coast Baking in Irvine California. Mac was also affiliated with Mrs. Fields cookies for many years, and he often won the Salesman of the Year award. Mac is preceded ineeath by his wife Polly; his brothers Charles, Joe, and Gerald, and sister Elizabeth Sweatt. Mac is survived by his children James and wife Radonna McVay of Tuttle, Oklahoma, Johnny McVay of Oxford, North Carolina, Betty Jo McVay-Reider of Murrieta, California, Kathy and husband David Morris of Hemet, California. He is survived by his baby sister Patsy and husband Ray McCain of Shiloh, Georgia. Mac was also blessed in life to be survived by 9 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews who all saw him as a loving, giving, kind, and strong patriarch. Mac will be remembered as a great hard-working man who was an avid golfer, loved baseball, children, travel by both air and train, and riding his tractor. He made many travels and had many adventures in his lifetime. He has been to 5 continents, 32 countries, and all 50 states multiple times. His favorite place was at the family farm in Oxford, North Carolina where he met his beloved bride and started the great legacy that is yet to be continued.
