James (Jim) Leslie Spore of Calabash, North Carolina passed away on Friday June 3rd, 2022, after spending time surrounded by his loving wife, son and daughter at the age of 77. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends who experienced his kindness, sense of humor, and absolute joy of living.
Jim was born on November 25th, 1944 in Little Rock, AR where his father was stationed with the United States Army. After living in Milwaukee, WI until the age of 10 they moved to Maryland where he would lay down roots, meet his wife, build his family and establish his career in marketing with Geico Insurance Company that he adored.
Jim was a graduate of Northwood High School and received his Bachelor’s degree from a small college in Nebraska called Hiram Scott, now part of the University of Nebraska. Jim met his wife, Sharon Graham Spore through a mutual friend, who set them up on a blind date in December of 1965 and they got married on September 14th 1968.
Jim spent most of his time living in Ijamsville, MD where he and Sharon raised their two children and he spent 36 years working for Geico in their marketing department. He loved his job where he could leverage his sense of humor and creativity and he embraced the travel he would do every year visiting sales offices across the country.
Jim spent the last 15 years enjoying his retirement in Calabash, NC where he played golf, participated in a bowling league, and was an active member of the Myrtle Beach Corvette Club, where he was Activities Director, enjoyed participating in car shows and loved leading the group on their famous mystery cruises.
Jim is preceded in death by his parents Jack and Eleanor Spore, his brothers Rick and Greg Spore and his parents-in-law Mason and Doris Graham. He is survived by his loving wife of almost 54 years, Sharon and their two children, Ken and Debbie and son-in-law Doug Stuck and his four grandchildren Bailey and Keifer Spore and Mason and Eve Stuck, as well as a long list of loving family and friends.
The family will celebrate Jim’s life on Friday July 1, 2022 at 11a.m. at the Brunswick Plantation House, 380 Brunswick Dr NW, Calabash, NC 28467 and again on July 28, 2022 at 11 a.m. at St. James Episcopal Church, 14 Cornwall St. NW, Leesburg, Va. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations go to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, https://www.stjude.org/ .
Jim and his family appreciate the exceptional care and compassion that he received at the Duke Medical Center in Durham, NC.
