James “Buck” Percy Matthews, age 72, died on March 11, 2019. He was the son of the late James Lewis Matthews and Annie Gertrude Capps Matthews. He was born in Granville County on February 8, 1947 and lived a fulfilling life surrounded by family and friends of the community.

Buck loved to cook and was a “father” to many. He was a man with a great personality and always loved to joke. Buck had a huge heart and loved to help any and all.

Buck is survived by his daughter, Teresa Matthews; his grandson, Perry “PJ” James Matthews (Laura); his brother, Randy Matthews (Barbara); his sister, Peggy Hicks (Wayne); his grandchildren, Jayla Matthews and Maycie Mathews and many wonderful nieces and nephews and other loving family and friends.

Buck is predeceased by his parents; his son, Jamie Matthews; his grandson, Little Randy Abbott; and his brother, Perry Lewis Matthews.

A memorial service in celebration of his life will be held at Sunday, March 17, 2019, 2:00 pm at Bullock Baptist Church with visitation with family and friends at 1:00 pm at the Church.
