Jack R. Shivers, Sr.

Jack Richard Shivers, Sr., 63, died on Friday, April 22, 2011. Jack was born in Spalding County, GA to Nathleen and James Shivers on neember 3, 1947. After college and in his early 20's, Jack began his career in the field of communication by joining the North Electric Company. Upon completing a contract job with Duke Uneersity, Jack accepted an offer to continue working directly with the Uneersity by joining Telcom. During his career, Jack was essential in the creation and installation of the 5 ESS switch that is only now being upgraded around campus. Jack retired in the summer of 2004 as a Senior Analyst, and after 32 years of service with Duke. Ineecent years, Jack could be found at SS Farm and Stable, a horse boarding facility that Jack built and owned with his wife Norma. He treasured the farm and loved spending time with his horses there. Jack is greatly loved and will be remembered by his wife Norma Hathaway Shivers of Apex, NC; sons Jack Richard Shivers, Jr. and his wife Vickie of Durham, NC; and Alan Shivers and his wife Nadine of Apex, NC; brother Kenneth Dillard Shivers and his wife Janee of Griffin, GA; and seven grandchildren. Jack is predeceased by his sister Paula Shivers Manning and his brother James Craig Shivers.
