Helene Gilbert Speed

OXFORD: Helene Gilbert Speed, age 87 of Oxford, died at Granville Medical Center oneednesday, December 19, 2012. A native of Buncombe County, she was the daughter of the late Ernest Franklin and Addie Stepp Gilbert and the wife of the late John William Speed. Helene was a member of Oxford Uneed Methodist Church and was a voluneer at the county museum. Graveside service will be conducted on Saturday, December 22, 2012 at 11:00 AM in Elmwood Cemetery by Rev. David Haley. The family will receive friends from 9:45 AM until 10:45 AM prior to the service at Gentry-neell & Vaughan Funeral Home. Surviving is a son John W. Speed, II of Henderson; a sister, Margaret H. Gilbert of Charlotte and a granddaughter, Ashley Speed of Charlotte. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the charity of one's choice. Gentry-neell & Vaughan is assisting the Speed family.
