Helen Oldham Dennis, age 87, peacefully went to be with her Lord and Savior and her husband, Eddie Dennis, on Wednesday, March 2, 2022.
Helen was born to the late L.D. and Hazel Oldham on May 14,1934. Besides her parents, Mrs. Dennis is preceded by her beloved husband of nearly 50 years, Edwin “Coach” Dennis. Helen is survived by her close cousins, Camp and JoAnn Oldham; Ronnie Ferrell and family; and her “extended family” as well as hosts of other cousins.
Helen was a student of life who faithfully served the Lord, loved learning and teaching. Her passions were helping others and gardening. Throughout her teaching career, not having children of her own, she served as a second mother to many of her students.
Ms. Helen believed you should exercise your right to vote having served as a Judge during elections.
She was a well-recognized Master Gardener in the Homestead Heights Garden Club and for her knowledge of flowers winning many Blue ribbons at the NC State Fair several years in a row, with special thanks to Barry.
Ms. Helen’s family and extended family is very thankful and appreciative for the outpouring of love and support. She will be greatly missed.
Special thanks to the Master Gardening Club who kept a check on her and brought many baskets filled with just what she needed when she needed it.
To Mrs. Pam and Mrs. Panna who have been faithful letter writers unknowingly keeping Ms. Helen active going to the mailbox anticipating awaiting news or photos of all that is going on in their life. See her face light up opening the envelopes and intently listening as the contents of those cards and letters are read to her. They just made her day!
To Ms. Helen’s caregivers who have been by her side at Brookdale Durham (Ireathia and Terry) since she moved in, in March 2019. Bridgett naming her an Ambassador. She so loved her role and the many new extended friends, all who meant so much to her, especially Ms. Vicki.
Visitation will be held at Hall-Wynne Funeral Home on Monday, March 7, 2022, from 10:00a-11:00a followed by a Chapel Service 11a-12p. Ms. Helen Dennis will be laid to rest beside her husband, mother and father at 2025 Ephesus Church Road.
