Helen Davis Long Tyree

Helen Long Tyree, 98, died Monday at her home of 17 years, the Forest at Duke. Born in Catawba County, she was daughter of the late Dr. Fred Yount Long and Carrie Belle Davis Long. She graduated from Greensboro College and was a longtime member of Trinity Uneed Methodist Church. Her passion for gardening and community was fueled with her memberships in the Durham Council of Garden Clubs and the Durham Junior League. She was preceded ineeath by three sisters, Corrine Long, Glenn Stimpson and Josephine Stetler. A graveside service will be held 2 PM Thursday in Maplewood Cemetery with the Rev. Duke Lackey presiding. Surviving are her son, Fred Long Tyree and wife, Ann Dula Tyree of Durham; one sister, Winifred Holland of Statesville. Arrangements are with Hall-Wynne Funeral Service.
