Ha Thi Nguyen Guthrie

Ha Thi Nguyen Guthrie, 66, of Durham lost her very brave year-long battle with gastric and breast cancer oneebruary 1, 2014 surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Vietnam on March 12, 1947. During the war, she met her husband, William Guthrie, an American soldier, while she was working as a secretary for the US Army. She moved to Durham, NC in 1972 and worked tirelessly to bring her entire family, consisting of her parents and 8 siblings and their families, to the US. Ha worked at Duke Uneersity as a computer programmer for many years before opening her owneestaurant, Kim Son Vietneese, in 1995. Surviving are: her husband of 41 years, William Guthrie; three daughters, Julie Vu and husband, Jack of Raleigh, Christine Martimbeau and husband, Elliott of Charlotte, Catherine Penilla and husband, John of Raleigh; seven grandchildren, Tony, Timothy, Tyler, Dylan, Will, Ian and Olivia; two brothers, Han Quang Nguyen and Han Quang Nguyen and five sisters, Houng Thien, Hang Minh Nguyen, Houng Nguyen, Dang Kieu Nguyen and Diep Van Huynh. The family will be present 6-8 p.m. Friday at Hall-Wynne Funeral Service, 1113 West Main St., Durham, where a Rosary Service will precede visitation at 5 p.m. Funeral Services will be celebrated at 1 p.m. Saturday at The Chapel of Hall-Wynne Funeral Service. Father Timothy Sick will preside. Burial will follow at St. Matthew's Cemetery in Durham. Donations may be made to Charity of Retirement Saigon, Vietnam.
