Gladys Hamm Carrasquillo

Gladys Aline Hamm Carrasquillo, 87, resident of 2307 Cardinal Drive, died Thursday evening. A native of Clinton, NC, she was the daughter of the late Amos Royas Alderman and Lenora Jones Alderman. Gladys moved to Durham in 1926 and while in Durham High School, she worked at the Royal Ice Cream Shop and the Center Theater taking up tickets. She retired from GTE, now Verizon, after 38 years. She was predeceased by her first husband, A.L. Hamm, Sr. in 1995. Mrs. Carrasquillo was a long time member of Aneer Avenue Baptist Church. Surviving are her husband, Jose Roberto Carrasquillo; step-daughter, Rev. Elizabeth Carrasquillo of Indianapolis, IN and step-son, Roberto Carrasquillo of Grand Parie, TX; two sister-in laws; Miss Marie Hamm of Durham and Laverne Baver of Raleigh; a brother, James Earl Alderman and wife Jean of Easton, MD; nephews, Charles M. Blalock of Wilmington, NC , Tommy Blalock of Hillsborough, NC and Jimmy Alderman of Baltimore, MD Graveside funeral services will be held 11:00 AM Monday, April 13, 2009 in Woodlawneemorial Park.
