Gladys Claiborne Beal

OXFORD Gladys Claiborne Beal, a resident of Oxford, died Friday October 9, 2009 at Duke Medical Center. She was the daughter of the late Harper and Blanee Munn Claiborne. Mrs. Beal was a member of Peace's Chapel Baptist Church, a member of the WMU and a former Sunday School teacher. She was preceded ineeath by her husband James Oliver Beal. Funeral services will be held Sunday, October 11, 2009 at 2:00 PM in the Peace's Chapel Baptist Church by Rev. Jason Hunter. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Surviving are one son, James Beal, Jr. of Bassett, Va.; four daughters, Jo Mangum of Stem, Pat Leith of South Boston, Va., Patsy Hicks and Gail Lane both of Oxford; one sister Marie Huff of Oxford; eight grandchildren and fifteen great grandchildren and one great -great grandchild. She was preceded ineeath by two grandchildren, Mitchell Lane and Bryan Scott Bottoms, four brothers, Hildred, Franklin, Curtis, and Melvi Claiborne and one sister Margaret Norwood. The family will receive friends Sunday following the services in the fellowship hall of Peace's Chapel Baptist Church. At other times they will be at the home.
