Geraldine "Jerry" Williams

DURHAM ??? Geraldine ???Jerry??? Williams Born June 17, 1923 ??? Died August 18, 2017 Jerry Williams, age 94, died August 18, 2017 at her home surrounded by her loving family. She was born and raised in Durham, the oldest daughter of the late D. Sexton Wall, Sr. and Beulah Pate Wall. She attended Glenn and Braggtown Schools. In 1944, she graduated from Women???s College (???UNCG???) and became a public school music teacher before marrying Claude Williams, Jr. in 1946 and moving permanently back to Durham. Her love of music was evident with her passion for children???s choirs at First Baptist Church for over 40 years. She loved singing in the adult choir at church aneespecially found joy participating with the Senior Adult Choir at Grey Stone Church until her recent illness. Her Christian love for others was also exemplified ineer work with WMU, International Wives, Sunday School and church musical and drama productions. Jerry and Claude were married for 69 years and family was the primary focus of their many years together. Five children, ten grandchildren and four great-grandchildreneenerated a large family with many opportunities to gather at their homeplace near the Eno River. Jerry was predeceased by her husband, Claude, in 2015, daughter-in-law, Chiyoko, and granddaughter, Christina. She is survived by her children, David of Pinehurst, Alan (Blanee) of Durham, Pamela (Jack) of Takoma Park, MD, Lisa of Durham, and Karen (Brian) Van Horn of Durham; grandchildren, Michele (Drew) Scarbrough, Elizabeth Williams, Catherine (Mark) Hanor, Thomas and Sam Alleneesther (Joshua) Clark, Olivia, Meg and Naomi Van Horn; great-grandchildren, Victoria and Melanie Scarbrough and William and Alexander Hanor; nieces, Susan and Cheryl Harward; and her beloved sheltie, Gentry. The family wishes to thank Brenda Holloway, Michelle Johnson and her other caregivers for the love, support and care they provided for the last several years. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Tuesday, August 22, 2017 at Grey Stone Church with Dr. Clay Waters officiating. Burial will follow in Maplewood Cemetery. The family will receive friends 6:00-8:00 PM Monday, August 21, 2017 at Hall-Wynne Funeral Service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Grey Stone Church, Legacy Center, 2601 Hillsborough Road, Durham, NC 27705.
