DURHAM - Georgia Callahan Hatcher, 86, died Thursday, April 28, 2011 at UNC Hospital. Georgia Hatcher neer knew how amazing she was. Georgia left Allentown, PA to attend Vanderbilt Uneersity, graduating Magna Cum Laude in 1946. At Vanderbilt she met and married John Will Hatcher. Georgia fulfilled her life's dream to have a family and raised 3 children that honeed her. She was very happily married for 58 years. Georgia's family and friends knew her best for her high standards as a mother to her children and a wife to John. She exemplified these standards ineer highly intelligent, determined, artistic and mathematical brain that lent itself to a life of order and service to her husband and children. Georgia will always be known for her kind sweetness expressed in a childlike thankfulness for all of life. Georgia was born June 4, 1924 in Allentown, PA to the late Clinton Callahan and Loreen Shoemaker Callahan. She was preceded ineeath by her husband, John Will Hatcher. Georgia is survived by her daughters, Patt Hatcher of Hillsborough; Lory Brockenbrough and husband, Ken of Durham; son, John "Buck" Hatcher and wife, Julie of Zionsville, IN; sister, Pat Lane of Florida; brother, Clinton Callahan of California; grandchildren, Ben, Anna, Marie Brockenbrough, Abbey, Caleb , Jesse Hatcher, and Hannah Barnard. A memorial service will be held 3:00 PM Sunday, May 1, 2011 at Pleasant Green Uneed Methodist Church. The Rev. Brian Wingo will officiate. In honor of Georgia's celebration of homemaking a contribution may be made to Habitat for Humanity of Charlotte or Durham, NC. The Hatcher family is under the care of Hall-Wynne Funeral Service, Durham.
