Gary Van Vlandren

Gary Van Vlandren, 83, died on March 12, 2022, at home in Durham, North Carolina. He was born on February 23, 1939, in Waterbury, Connecticut, to parents John and Doris (Anderson) Van Vlandren. Creative, optimistic, resilient, adventurous, and kind, he is survived by Jeanne, his wife of 47 years, sons Eric and Joel (wife Wendy), his brother Kurt, and sister Holly Evans (husband Tom).  Gary enjoyed a very full life through his work as a teacher, builder, innovator, and sculptor. He loved cycling, sailing, hiking, and travel - exploring nature, cultural sites, and museums around the world. Family, friends, and neighbors will warmly remember his many talents, quick wit, and willingness to lend a hand. Gary’s greatest magic was his ability to make deep connections with people.  While we mourn his passing, his spirit will always be in our hearts.

Gary will be remembered at a private family memorial.
