Garrell Shaun Surratt

Garrell Shaun Surratt, age 44, died unexpectedly on Saturday, October 15, 2022. He was the son of Vestal “Mac” Surratt Jr., and the late Diane Leigh Edwards and the grandson of Vestal M. Surratt, Sr and Esther Surratt and Lee and Pat Edwards of Creedmoor. Shaun was born on March 9, 1978, in Vance County, NC.

Shaun was a kind and loving soul and a great brother. He was an excellent chef and loved dirt bikes, horses and music. He was a reserved and quiet person, who had a beautiful artistic side and would give the shirt off his back to help someone. He loved to work with his hands and was extremely mechanically gifted.

Shaun is survived by his father, Mac Surratt (Linda) , his son, Alex S. Swain and his stepfather, Maurice Wayne Hendrick. He also leaves behind his siblings, Rodney Surratt (Billi), Davy Surratt, Devin Surratt, Cheyenne Lynn Surratt and Ashley Lee Poythress (Brandel McGee). He will be greatly missed by many extended family and friends too numerous to name.

He was predeceased by his mother, Diane Hendrick and his grandparents.

A funeral service will be held on Friday, October 21, 2022, at 2:00 pm at Mt. Zion Baptist Church and will be officiated by Reverend Tim Atkinson. A visitation will be held from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Gentry-Newell & Vaughan on Thursday, October 20, 2022. Burial will follow the service at Mt. Zion Baptist Church, Oxford, NC.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Shaun’s memory to the Mt. Zion Baptist Church, Oxford, NC.
