Fred A. Gregory, 60, died suddenly at home on Sunday, June 1, 2014. Fred was born March 4, 1954 ineedina, Ohio to Howard R. and Mary Cutlipp Gregory. He proudly served his country in the Navy during the Vietnam War. Fred graduated with honors from Geneva College, Bowling Green Uneersity and UNC Chapel Hill Law School. Fred was an attorney for over 25 years, working at the Dare County District Attorney's office, the Durham County District Attorney's office and the North Carolina ABC commission in Raleigh, where he was chief counsel for many years. He enjoyed fishing, the Cleveland Indians, the Cleveland Browns and UNC basketball. Fred was an avid gardener, who for many years grew, canned and shared with many his hot peppers. His passion was writing and singing country songs. He was a dedicated and loyal friend. He was preceded ineeath by his father, Howard R. Gregory. Surviving are: his wife, of 29 years, Darcy Nahigyan Gregory of Durham; a son, Henry C. Gregory of Asheville; a daughter, Georgia P. Gregory of Durham; his mother, Mary Cutlipp Gregory of West Virginia; three brothers, Steve Gregory of Mocksville, Tim Gregory and wife, Roberta of Ohio, Bruce Gregory of West Virginia; a sister, Terry Gregory of Florida; nieces and nephews. Memorial service will be held 3 p.m. Saturday at The Church of The Good Shepard, 3741 Garrett Rd., Durham. Rev. David Bowen will preside. Memorial donations may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project, PO Box 758517 Topeka, KS 66675. Arrangements are entrusted to Hall-Wynne Funeral Service, Durham Chapel.
