Florante Olesco

Chapel Hill, NC - Florante, fondly known as, “Ole” Olesco, age 79, died Sunday, December 25, 2022, at UNC Hospitals. Ole was born on June 5, 1943, in Oco, Viga, Catanduanes, Philippines to the late Wenceslao Olat Olesco and Paulina Camacho Olesco.

Ole is survived by his loving and steadfast wife of 57 years, Erlinda Ocampo Olesco, his children Derwin and wife Norma, Nancy Olesco, Marites Olesco, and Florante Jr. and wife Amylyn, his grandchildren: David, Noah, Charlotte, Charlton and Chantal, his great grandchildren, Madison and Mateo.

Ole began his career as a formula maker at St. Francis General Hospital in the Philippines where he met his wife Linda, a nurse, then moved to Germany to join his wife where he became an insurance agent at Deutscher Ring for 25 years and decided to retire in Chapel Hill, North Carolina.

Ole fought his battle against his illness for 7 long years. Despite spending much of his time in and out of the hospital, he never lost his sense of humor. Throughout his entire journey, he cracked jokes with his wife and children, friends, and most especially the hospital staff. He had a great ability to make others smile and his sense of humor will be missed.

A funeral mass service will be held at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church located at 810 Chapel Hill Street, Durham, NC 27701 on Saturday, December 31, 2022, at 11:00 am. Father Gonzalo Torres will officiate. Interment will follow at the Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens at 6350 NC-86 S, Chapel Hill, NC 27514.

Friends may visit from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Thursday December 29 and Friday December 30 at Hall-Wynne Funeral Service located at 1113 West Main Street, Durham, NC 27701.

Memorial donations may be made to UNC Kidney Center.
