Ethel Oakley Blalock

Ethel Oakley Blalock passed oneecember 22, 2019 at the age of 92 after long suffering. She was a lifetime resident of Stem, NC, a 1945 graduate of Stem High School and the wife of the late George L. Blalock, Jr and daughter of the late Robert ???Bob??? Oakley and Luna O. Oakley. Ethel was known for exquisite quilting and as an avid historian. She shared her vast wealth of knowledge with friends and family ineer home and at the NC Room located at the Oxford Library. Ethel was a trustee for the Stem Family Cemetery, Gooch Memorial Cemetery and Community Memorial Gardens. She was also a proud member of the Board of Commissioners for the town of Stem. The Funeral service will be held at Gentry-neell & Vaughan in the Chapel on Friday, December 27, 2019 at 2:00 pm. Burial to follow at Carolina Memorial Gardens.???? Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service, from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm. Ethel is survived by her children, Alice B. Avery and Marshall Blalock (Angelia); her granddaughter, Amanda Avery; great granddaughter, Cordelia Avery Hux; and nieces Peggy Norwood, and Margaret Baker. Ethel is predeceased by her husband, George; her parents and her brothers, Otis, Charlie, Rufus, Raymond, and Clarence Oakley. Flowers are acceptable or a donation ineer honor may be made to the NC Room at Richard Thornton Library, 210 North Main St, Oxford, NC, 27565; to the Stem New Town Hall, Police Station and Museum of Stem, Attn: Marshall Blalock, 200 N. Old 75 Highway, Stem, NC 27581. The Blalock family is proudly being served by Gentry-neell & Vaughan Funeral Home, 503 College St., Oxford, NC, 27565.
