Mrs. Ernest Mae McGhee Baker, age 90, of Wilson Care Center, Wilson, NC died in Wilson Hospital on Saturday, April 28, after an extended illness. She was a World War II bride married 56 years to the late Fred Thomas Baker, Sr. A native of Louisburg, NC, she lived in Durham, NC most of her adult life. She worked side by side with her husband at Penny Furniture Company until retiring in 1988. Mrs. Baker was a member of Watts Street Baptist Church where she taught the children Sunday school classes. She also was a member of the Hallie Pope Sunday School class and served as an active voluneer for the local Red Cross for 20 years. Mrs. Baker is survived by her only son, Fred Thomas Baker, Jr. and wife, Mary Ann; one grandson, Dr. Brent Thomas Baker and wife, Tonya; two great grandsons, Taegan Daniel Baker and Camerik Thomas Baker, all of Hendersonville, NC. Graveside services will be held 2:00 PM Thursday, May 3, at Apex Cemetery in Apex, NC with the Reverend Forest M. Gale, Jr. presiding. Friends may visit with the family following the service.
