Emma Beatrice Yow Gaydou (Bea), beloved Mother and Grandmother, went home to be with her Heavenly Father and join her beloved husband Elmo, Wed Jan 5 2022, at the age of 90.
Beatrice, Bea, to family and friends, was born March 6, 1931 daughter to James Curtis Yow and Lillie Mae Brown. Bea grew up and resided in the Whitecross community, where her family had a working farm. They attended Antioch Baptist church. At the age of 13, Bea got her first job working in textiles at Carr Mill in Carrboro.
Beatrice married Elmo Ross Gaydou and moved to Durham where she became an active member of Ebenezer Baptist Church. She especially loved caretaking for the babies and visiting the shut-ins. She truly loved to help people and was born to serve.
Elmo and Bea loved driving to their place at Emerald Isle every weekend they could to fish and beachcomb. When at home, she was an avid gardener, interior designer and cook.
Bea retired from Liggett Myers after 30+ years. Allowing her to see the world through travel with her church group. People could always depend on her to bring the popcorn and the snacks. She never met a stranger.
She was an active grandmother and later in life she was an active great grandmother, and was an integral part of raising her great-grandson Logan.
She is survived by her brother John Yow, sister Glenda Mauer, daughter Karen Bentley, Granddaughter Tiffany Bowles, Grandson Chris Bentley, Great-grandsons Lee and Logan Bowles and Christopher and Wyatt Bentley.
