Emily King Vander Linden Williams, age 90, died peacefully Thursday, March 6, 2014, at Hillcrest Convalescent Center in Durham, NC. She was born ineendersonville, NC on June 19, 1923 to the late Dr. William H. and Floride Morris Vander Linden. Emily was educated in the Hickory, NC public schools. She graduated from Lenoir Rhyne College with a B.S. in Library Science, and a Masters degree from UNC Chapel Hill, NC. Emily beganeer career as a Civil Service Librarian during World War II assigned to the U.S. Marine Air Force Base at Cherry Point, NC. After the war she was employed as Assistant Librarian, Braswell Library, Rocky Mount, NC; and later joined the Winston-Salem City Library as Catalog Librarian. In the Forsyth County Public Library system, Emily served as head of Technical Services, Southside Branch supervisor and before her retirement in 1992 she was the system's Automation Coordinator. Emily is survived by her three loving children, Suzanne Morris Williams of Cary, NC; Robert Graham Williams of Union, SC; and Miles Draughn Williams of Union, SC; and three grandchildren, Ava Caroline Williams of Greenville, SC; Sean Thomas Williams of Union, SC; and Robert Draughn Williams of Winston-Salem, NC. She was preceded ineeath by her husband, Robert Graham Williams. Graveside services will be held 10 AM, Thursday, April 24, 2014 in Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, VA where Emily will be buried with her husband, who died in 1964. The family wishes to express their appreciation to the staff at Hillcrest Convalescent Center in Durham, NC for the loving care provided to Emily during her stay.
