Mrs. Eleanor Anne White McDonald, 92, of Durham died May 16, 2021.
Mrs. McDonald was born August 5, 1928 in Norfolk, Virginia, the daughter of the late Allmand Stiles White and Anne Spear White.
She lived in Norfolk until her family moved to Roanoke Rapids, N.C. in 1941, where she graduated from Roanoke Rapids High School, Class of 1945. She graduated from Randolph Macon Women's college in 1949 with a B.A. in chemistry. She worked as a research assistant at the Medical College of Virginia until her marriage in 1953. Afterwards she worked as a research technician in cardiology at Duke Hospital and later as a pulmonary technician at the Durham Veterans Administration Hospital. She was a member of Duke Memorial United Methodist Church.
She was a devoted daughter, wife and mother. She enjoyed visiting the beach and had fond childhood memories of happy times at her grandparents' home on the Chesapeake Bay. She learned the stories of her family as a child and enjoyed recounting them.
She was preceded in death by her husband of fifty-four years, Arthur Allen McDonald, Jr.
She is survived by her son, Arthur Allen McDonald, III of Durham, her cousin Betty Auman of Fuquay Varina and Betty's family. She is also survived by many McDonald nieces, nephews and cousins.
The funeral service will be held at 2 P.M. Sunday May 23, 2021 in the chapel of the Hall- Wynne Funeral Service, with the Reverend Heather Rodrigues officiating. Burial will follow in Maplewood Cemetery. The family will receive visitors prior to the service in the chapel beginning at 1 p.m. Pallbearers will be C.J. Auman, Fred Dean, Allen Dean, Neill A. McDonald, Robert McDonald, Neill F. McDonald, Mark Matthews, and Jeffery Cole.
The family would to thank her physicians and the staff of Hillcrest Convalescent Center for the kind, attentive care she received.
