Edna Ray Washington, age 76, died on August 23, 2020 after a courageous battle with cancer. She was born to the late Graham Ray and Evie Perry Ray on February 24, 1944 in Franklinton, NC.
Edna was a long serving resident in the Stem community. She graduated from Franklin High School and went to Vance Granville to become a licensed practical nurse. In 1965, she married her late husband, Tom. She worked for the State of North Carolina at John Umstead as an LPN and retired from the State. In 1980, her husband, Tom, opened Tom’s Mini Mart where she actively assisted. Edna was an active member at Stem United Methodist Church.
Edna is survived by her devoted son, Tom C. Washington, Jr., Stem, NC and many nieces, nephews, family, and friends too numerous to name.
Edna was predeceased by her parents; her husband of 54 years; her 7 brothers and 7 sisters.
A funeral service to be held on Thursday, August 27, 2020 at 11: 00 am at Gentry-Newell & Vaughan Chapel officiated by Rev. Norma Roberts and Rev. John Pritchard. A private burial to follow service at Washington Family Cemetery.
