Edith Rebecca Currin Rutledge, 82, of Stovall, NC, died on Thursday, May 4, 2017. She was a native of Granville County and the daughter of the late Roger Leroy and Cora Sue Nelson Currin. Edith was preceded in death by her daughter Marilyn Sue Rutledge and grandson David Carson Weary. She is survived by her husband Amos Buford Rutledge; her children Sheila Boyd of Stovall, Wanda Rutledge (Robert) Oliver of Stovall, Steve Rutledge of Durham, Debbie Rutledge of Stovall, and Ray (Lisa) Rutledge of Raleigh; and two sisters Mildred Goss of Creedmoor and Helen Wood of Acushnet, MA. She is also survived by 10 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, 9 great great-grandchildren, and numerous other family and friends. Mrs. Rutledge was a graduate of Stovall High School. After graduating, she moved to Petersburg VA, for about eight years before returning to Granville County in 1969. She worked for Burlington Mills until the plant closed, at which time she took her talents to the Murdoch Center where she worked for over 25 years until retiring. She was a lifelong member of Stovall Baptist Church, where she was very involved in all facets of church life, including church secretary for a number of years. Edith was a Rebekah with the Independent Order of Odd Fellows. She was known for her canning, and was an avid quilter, donating numerous quilts for various community fund raisers and charities. Edith always held a special place in her heart for her cats. Visitation will be held at Gentry Newell & Vaughan Funeral Home Friday May 5, 2017 from 6:00 to 8:00PM. A funeral service will be held at Stovall Baptist Church on Saturday, May 6, 2017 at 2:00 PM and the family will receive guests beginning at 1:00 PM prior to the service at the church. Services will be conducted by Reverend Robert Oliver and Reverend Eddie Mauldin. Burial will follow in the Stovall Baptist Church Cemetery.
