Edgar J. Harlow, 78, passed away on October 28th, 2024. He was born and raised in Kingston, NY, the son of the late Edgar Windhams Harlow of Ogdensburg, NY and Anna Rose Coughlin Harlow of Kingston, NY.
Ed attended college at SUNY New Paltz in NY where he graduated, in 1968, with a BS in Education. He later earned an MS in Education at Long Island University. Ed’s 37-year teaching career took place in Yorktown Heights, NY where he taught both elementary and middle school students. There he met Audrey Rose, and they married in 1982. They lived and worked in Yorktown Heights, NY until 2008, when they retired and moved to Fearrington Village, NC. Audrey passed away in 2019. He was also preceded in death by three sisters, Marianne Razey, Elizabeth Gallagher, and Margaret Schlotzhauer.
Ed is survived by his sister and brother-in-law, JoDell and George M. Kotrady of Saint Augustine, Florida, brother-in-law, James Schlotzhauer of Roswell, GA; His stepchildren, James Wynkoop and Carolyn Wynkoop, children of Audrey’s first marriage; his daughter-in-law Maureen Wynkoop; his grandchildren David, Beth, Ellen, Kate, Ethan, and Aaron; four great- grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
While living in Yorktown Heights, Ed was a member of St. Mark's Episcopal Church in Mt. Kisco. After moving to North Carolina, he became a member of the congregation at Duke University Chapel.
Ed’s Memorial Service will take place at Duke Chapel on Friday, December 6th, 2024 at 1:30pm.
