Drue Alan Moore

Durham

Drue Alan Moore, 55 of Durham, North Carolina, passed away on January 10, 2025. Drue was born on September 12, 1969, in Rockford, Illinois. He is survived by his loving family, including his mother, Jane Wallace; his wife of 22 years, Kelly Frans Moore; his greatest joys, sons Miles Willard Moore and Cole Drue Moore; and many uncles, aunts, cousins, beloved nieces and dear friends.

From his mother, Drue learned courage; from his wife, love; and from his sons, happiness and purpose. Drue was very close to his mother and her parents. His Granddad, Willard, was a standard-bearer and rock in Drue’s life. Lt. (jr grade) W.D. Moore served his country for nine years in the Navy, including time aboard the USS McCord (DD-534) during World War II. Drue’s Grandmother, Frieda, was Drue’s best friend as a child and the person who taught Drue to enjoy birds, flowers and apple pie. He had cherished relationships with his uncles, aunts and cousins who were instrumental in his early family life.

Drue was the fourth generation of lawyers in his family, a “tradition” that began with his Great-Grandfather Lewis. Drue practiced law in both law firms and corporations in the United States and abroad and represented clients with a wide range of interests. He was most proud of his tenure and subsequent decades-long affiliation with Stanford University’s Department of Athletics.

Drue will be remembered for his love of family, his entrepreneurial spirit, his thirst for information, his fierce loyalty, and his quiet contemplation of the world around him. Watching Miles and Cole from the sidelines, jotting ideas in his ever-present Field Notes notebook, sending articles of interest to friends, enjoying good food and wine, traveling and spending time in nature are just a few of the many ways he enjoyed life. His pride in his sons was his most defining quality and evident to all who knew and loved him.

A memorial service to honor Drue’s life will be held on Sunday, January 19, 2025, at 2:00 PM at University Presbyterian Church in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. The Revs. Meg Peery McLaughlin and Jarrett McLaughlin will preside. The family will receive friends immediately following the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to Murango Primary School in Southern Burundi. Drue, Miles and Cole had been working to fund the school’s reconstruction after it was destroyed by a flood. Burundi is the home country of Drue’s dearest friend, Juvenal, and a place he had hoped to visit someday. University Presbyterian Church will receive these donations and put them to work in Burundi in Drue’s loving memory. Checks may be made payable to UPC with Drue Moore Memorial Gift noted in the memo line.
