Dr. John Bannan

CHAPEL HILL-Dr. John Francis Bannan, age 90, died peacefully Tuesday, February 23, 2016 at the DuBose Health Center in Chapel Hill. Born June 8, 1925 in Plaineeld, New Jersey, he was the only son of the late Francis E. and Catherine Wall Bannan. John earned a Ph.D in Philosophy from the Uneersity of Louvain ineelgium. He taught Philosophy at Loyola Uneersity in Chicago for 51 years. He was the author of ???The Philosophy of Merleau-Ponty??? and co-author with his wife Rosemary of ???Law, Morality & Vietnam.??? John balanced his vocational endeavors with a love for dancing, the arts and travel. He was also a black belt in Judo and a private pilot. He is survived by his soneeric Bannan and wife, Luanne and grandson, Zane Bannan of Pittsboro, NC. He was predeceased in May 2012 by his wife of 61 years, Dr. Rosemary Shamborsky Bannan and ineebruary 1988 by his daughter, Denee Bannan-Gow, M.D. Friends may visit Sunday, February 28, 2016 from 2:00 ??? 4:00 PM at Hall-Wynne Funeral Service. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:00 AM Monday, February 29, 2016 followed by a reception at St. Thomas More Catholic Church with Fr. James Labosky officiating.
