Mrs. Dorothy Oakley Lipscomb, 101, died April 7th, 2025, just four days prior to her 102nd birthday at the Hock Pavilion. She was the daughter of the late Raymond Pinkey and Lillie Hobgood Oakley and widow of the late John M. Lipscomb Jr.. Dorothy lived all her life in Durham, graduating from Durham High School in the
class of 1941. Her early career was at the Fidelity Bank later Wachovia . She later worked at Duke Hospital Medical PDC, then Duke Cancer Research Program and retiring from the Duke Nasher Art Museum. She was a volunteer with American Red Cross for many years as well . Dorothy was a lifelong member of Grace Baptist Church where she loved so much singing in the choir all her life. She loved music , friends and sharing her good sense of humor with them . She had a great affection for all types of animals especially dogs and birds .
She is survived by her nieces , Geneva Humphries, Faye Little and Beatrice Gill. nephews, Mike , Carl and Bill Oakley, Sam and Jerry Adcock. Also her caregivers, Elizabeth,Miranda,Abby, Michelle,Fran and Annette. She was predeceased by brothers, Harvey and George Oakley and a sister Evelyn Adcock . Funeral services will be held Saturday April 12th at 2 o’clock at Hall Wynne Funeral Chapel, Rev. Burke Raper officiating the family will receive friends one hour prior to the services. Interment will be held on an alternate day at Maplewood Cemetery . Flowers are appreciated since she loved them so, or contributions to Independent Animal Rescue, P.O. Box 14232, Durham, NC 27709.
