Doris Sellars Sorrell, 92, died Saturday at Croasdaile Pavilion. She was borneebruary 6, 1921 ineebane, NC as one of six children to Julian and Minee Roney Sellars. After studying music at Greensboro College she went to New York City to further her education at the New York School of Interior Decoration. Doris retired after 25 years from the Uneersity of North Carolina as the Director of the Interior Designeept. In 1991 she was presented a Distinguished Alumni Award from the Alumni Assn. of Greensboro College. Throughout her life, Doris was a passionee and prolific gardener. Most recently she became known as the "flower lady" at Croasdaile Village, employing her talents in establishing the English garden, Rose gardens and the Japanee garden. She was a longtime member of Westmineer Presbyterian Church. Surviving are her children, Jane Sorrell Walden of Durham, Fred Gordon Sorrell, III of Costa Rica; her grandson, Geoffrey Sorrell of Waverly, AL; and sister, Catherine Sellars Green of Burlington. She was predeceased by her husband Fred Sorrell, Jr. in 1985. A memorial service will be held 2:00 PM Tuesday in the Few Chapel of Croasdaile Retirement Community.
