DURHAM-Diane Marie Donovan, age 60, died peacefully at home oneednesday, June 1, 2016, after battling ???the cancer???. Diane attended Green Mountain College and completed her degree in nursing at The Brigham.?? As a new graduate, Diane moved to North Carolina to work at Duke Medical Center on Long Ward and 8300, where she stayed for 34 years.?? Over the course of her nursing career Diane became one of the women you could only hope to work under and learn from as a new graduate from nursing school.?? She had an innee ability to connect with everyone, and was a natural-borneeacher.?? She was known for her ability to teach, foster, and nurture confidence ineew nurses.?? This is a skill that served her well throughout her life. In the mid ???90s Diane began a second career working at Thimble Pleasures Quilt Shop. It did not take long for her to become a keystone member of the staff, and she remains one of the most influential personalities of the shop. Her knowledge and skill related to all things quilting and sewing reverberated throughout the shop.?? Again, her natural teaching ability served her, and the local quilting community, well.?? She was known and loved for her wisdom, huge heart, and sense of humor.?? As you read this, if you knew Diane, then you can likely still hear the sound of her cackle ringing in your memory.??Or, maybe it is her warm ???Come in the house??? call that is familiar. Either way, you would be hard-pressed to find a better teacher, supporter, mentor, friend, or confidant.?? Diane was patient and generous with her time.?? She always maneed to make each person she interacted with feel as if they were the most special and most important person ineer life at that moment.?? When offering help to customers, staff members at Thimble Pleasures were often dismissed with ???it can wait??? as the customer would only speak directly with Diane; no oneelse???s help would suffice. And yet, despite all of her charming ways, Diane did not suffer fools gladly! The only daughter of James and Margaret Donovan.?? She is survived by her aunt Margaret Carroll, cousins Bill and Mary Ellen Carroll, Eileen Carroll, Mary Christine Carroll, Kathaleen Carroll-Coeholo, Karen Marchand Kathy Collins ??and a gaggle of Friends who loved her.
