David Lee Curl

David Lee Curl, 82, died peacefully Saturday, Dec 11 at his home in Chatham County following a lengthy illness. He was the son of Clay & Walcie Thomas Curl of Chatham County, and a graduate of Pittsboro High School. Mr. Curl was a General Contractor until his retirement from David Curl Building Associates, Inc. as President. As one of Chapel Hill's and Orange County's preeminent builders he was also one of the founding members of the Home Builders Association of Durham & Orange, the developer of many local neighborhoods and area homes. Mr. Curl was a Christian and member of Mt. Olive Baptist Church of Chatham County, former member and Men's Chorus director at Antioch Baptist Church, a member of the Masonic Lodge in Chapel Hill , Shriner's and the Order of the Eastern Star. In his retirement years he was an avid golfer, country music fan, proud grandfather, and voluneer for Meals on Wheels. Mr. Curl is survived by his wife of 20 years, Doloris Stephenson Curl; daughters Cheryle Atwater and Toni Buck, sons-in-law and former business partners Raymond Atwater & Gary Buck, grandchildren Jonathan Atwater and wife Veronika, Jeremy Buck and wife Kelley, Justin Buck and Anne Marie Loftus, and Jordan Buck; step-children Susan Carroll, Sharon Stephenson, Grady Stephenson; step-grandchildreneessica and Jenna Carroll; sister Doris Tillman; and former wife Madeline Copeland Curl. He was predeceased by his loving grandson Drew Atwater. The funeral will be held on Tuesday Dec 14 at 2:00 PM at Mt. Olive Baptist Church in Chatham County. Visitation will follow in the fellowship hall. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to Mt. Olive Baptist Church, or the Masonic Children's Home.
