David Joseph Stockwell

With a heavy heart, we learned our beloved son/brother/father, David Joseph Stockwell, 42, collapsed and passed away suddenly at his home in Asheboro, NC on May 25, 2023. David was born in Syracuse, NY to parents Joseph and Susan Stockwell and lived in Fayetteville, NY until moving with his family to Chapel Hill, NC in 1997.

David graduated from East Chapel Hill High School and attended college at UNCG in Greensboro, NC before moving to Philadelphia, PA to pursue a career in commercial real estate development. David held positions with General Growth Properties, McDevitt & Company and most recently was a senior member of Emerging Concepts, helping find real estate solutions for leading restaurants and entertainment companies.

David and Samantha Feeney Stockwell were married in 2008 and settled in Cornelius, NC. David and Samantha have three beautiful children – daughters Audrey (11) and Quinn (7) and son Weston (5). David was an active member of the Cornelius community and a proud member of the Cornelius Historical Society. David, together with his father Joseph and sister, Joli, developed and opened BoatYard in 2018, a live music community destination, in Lake Norman, NC.

David was a life-long outdoorsman and felt at peace in nature – either fishing, camping or just working outdoors in his yard. David enjoyed his trips to Liverpool, England, visiting family and friends and playing golf at Royal Liverpool with his Dad, brother and many friends. David had an infectious personality and always made people feel special. Quick witted with a great sense of humor, David could make anyone laugh. Above all, David was a devoted family man and shared his love of nature, music and God with his children and loved ones.

David’s strong Catholic faith guided him throughout his life. David always put others first and the outpouring of love for David has been heartening and uplifting as we grieve his loss.

David is lovingly survived by his children Audrey, Quinn, and Weston, parents Joseph and Susan, sister Joli, brother Geoffrey, sister-in-law Valerie, nephews Jack and Luke and nieces Grace and Sage.

A funeral service will be held, 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, June 6, 2023, at St. Thomas More Catholic Church. Officiating will be Fr. Steven DiMassimo.
