David Duane Bottjen, age 66, died unexpectedly on July 9, 2024. He was born August 5, 1957, to Reverend Duane Bottjen and the late Bertha Bottjen.
David grew up in Wisconsin and was the fourth of six children. He received a Bachelor's degree in Electronics Engineering from DeVry Institute of Technology in Chicago, Illinois. He had a successful career with AT&T/Lucent before joining American Institute of Certified Public Accountants where he was employed at the time of his passing.
David was blessed with a beautiful voice and sang with many church and community choirs over his lifetime and sang at many family weddings. He was a talented drummer during his high school years, playing multiple drums while marching with the band. He enjoyed traveling, playing board games, puns, spending time with family and friends, being active in church communities, and the beach.
David had a fondness for the woods of Ely, Minnesota and hoped to live there someday. He introduced his brother Aaron as a young sports fan to ACC basketball and later the Carolina Panthers, of which David was a season ticket holder. The fond memories are too many to count.
David is survived by his loving wife, Roxanna Bottjen; son, Bradley (Charlene) Bottjen; grandson, Vincent Bottjen; and granddaughter Kairi Bottjen. He is also survived by his father, Rev. Duane Bottjen; siblings Annette Tomlinson, Beverly (Timothy) Ryan, Michelle (Dennis) Keister, Aaron (Kari) Bottjen; brother-in-law, James Licata; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his beloved mother, Bertha Bottjen; sister, Debra Licata; and brother-in-law, Marv Tomlinson.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the North Carolina Zoological Society, Inc.
