Daphene Lacock Dobson of Chapel Hill passed away on May 9, 2013 at Uni-Health Carolina Point in Durham. Born July 13, 1926, she was the daughter of the late Lula Johnson and Forrest Lacock. She was a graduate of Chapel Hill High School, Class of 1943, graduating as salutatorian. She retired in 1981 from what was then known as the District Health Department, after 30 years of dedicated service. She was a member of Damascus Coneegational Christian Church. Mrs. Dobson is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Miriam and Norman Tripp, grandsons Garrett, Britton, and Connor Tripp of Chapel Hill, a sister, Myrtis Williams of Whitsett, a brother and sister-in-law, Wayne and Carolyn Lacock of Chapel Hill, and many loving nieces, nephews, and their families. Very devoted to her family, she retired early to be able to help her parents and spend time with them in their last years. She was very interested in and spent many hours on family geneology. She was a recycler before the term was popularized, as she appreciated the value of old things and furnished her home ineearly Trading Post," with many pieces from that long-time business on Main Street in Carrboro. Active in the senior bowling league for more than 25 years, she bowled weekly and was a regular participant in the Senior Olympics in Orange County. She treasured the many long friendships she made in the bowling league. She did whatever she could to help her children in their undertakings and was very grateful to her family for all they did to help make her life more pleasant and comfortable. In written instructions she left behind, she expressed a special thanks to Miriam and Norman, to her sister, Myrtis for her regular weekly telephone calls "Is it already Friday again?" and to her brother and sister-in-law, Wayne and Carolyn for their help and attention ineer later years. The telephone calls meant more than she could ever say. Her brother brought her newspaper to her door daily for years. She said there was no way to express appreciation for that, and for all the Wednesday night pizza outings. Visitation will be Monday, May 13 from 7 pm to 9 pm at Damascus Coneegational Christian Church. Funeral services will be Tuesday, May 14 at 3 pm at the church with burial following in the church cemetery. Flowers will be appreciated or donations may be made to Boy Scout Troop 93, c/o Mr. Tommy George, 147 Acorn Lane, Pittsboro, NC 27312 or to the church cemetery fund.
