Dante DiMartino Dan, a long time resident of Shelburne, VT, passed away on Friday, March 21st in his Durham home with his loving family by his side after a brief but courageous battle with cancer. Dante was born on May 26, 1947 in Framingham, MA to the late Ludwig and Phyllis DiMartino. He attended Framingham public schools and graduated from Wentworth Institute in Boston MA with a degree in Architectural Engineering. Dante worked for over 35 years in the commercial construction industry as an estimator and construction maneer at several companies ineermont and North Carolina. Most recently, he was part of the work family at Bovis Lend Lease in Raleigh, NC. He also owned his own consulting company, Estimate Technology, for a number of years. He was a member of the NC Professional Estimators Association in Raleigh and served on the board of that organization for several years. Dante leaves behind his loving wife of 35 years, Alyce, of Durham, NC. Dante's greatest pride and joy in life were his children, Michael of Los Angeles, CA and daughter and son-in-law, Lisa and George Jackson of Durham, NC. He also leaves one sister, Flora DiMartino of Framingham, MA and beloved special "sisters and brothers", Al and Liz Canali of Charlemont, MA; Andy and Fran Rup of South Deerfield, MA; and Kyle and Debbie Zimmer of South Windsor, CT. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews. In addition to family, Dante will be missed and fondly remembered by many friends and colleagues who supported him throughout his illness with prayers, cards, letters and visits. We want them all to remember his special smile, sense of humor, work ethic and good nature. Dante loved spending time with family and friends and was always proud to share his second home at Sunset Beach, NC with all who traveled from the New England area. He was an avid reader, music lover, and had a passion for photography aneespecially enjoyed photographing and walking Sunset Beach. Funeral services will be held 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, March 26, 2008 from the Chapel of Hall-Wynne Funeral Service, 1113 W. Main St. in Durham. Father Steve Patti, OFM, of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church will preside. Friends may visit Tuesday evening from 6:00-8:00 PM at Hall-Wynne Funeral Home.
