(Chapel Hill, NC) – Dan Hicks, known as Jack or DannyJack to close friends and family, age 79, died in Chapel Hill, NC on Wednesday 3/13/2024. He was born on January 9, 1945, to the late Bethel and Henry Gardner Hicks, in Floyd County, Kentucky.
Dan was incredibly creative, intelligent, and vivacious. He was a talented artist and photographer, and well-known and respected stylist. He loved to spend time with his friends, family, and most of all his daughter and his dogs, who were especially dear to him.
Dan is survived by his loving daughter Suzannah Hicks, daughter-in-law Kim Armstrong, grandson Daniel Ratley, Jr., sisters-in-law Darla Hicks and Joan Pack-Rowe. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews, cousins, and many dear friends. Dan was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Randolph Hicks, niece Jessica Hicks, and former wife Dr. Marilyn P. Hicks.
Dan will be carried home to the mountains of eastern Kentucky and a service to celebrate his life is planned for this summer, which will be communicated at a closer time with the specific date and location. All will be welcome. He will then be laid to rest in the Prater Family Cemetery, Prater Fork, KY as per his wishes.
